Girls Night: The Musical is the perfect getaway and photo-op with your gff’s (girlfriends forever and even gayfriends forever). I saw the show at Laguna Playhouse in Laguna Beach on April 1st. I brought my bff, my mom, my bff’s mom, and two of my girlfriends.

As I entered the lobby of the theater, I already felt the girl vibes in the venue – twinkling tiaras and a lot of hot pink feather boas. The musical theatre started with Sharon who talks to the audience from beyond the grave – wearing an all white outfit with a pair of angel wings. She begins by telling the audience about her past – she was 16 when she got pregnant and died in a motorcycle accident. The next scene, 20 years had passed, Sharon watches her four best friends began as they spend a night in karaoke club to celebrate the engagement of Sharon’s daughter. Sharon plays an unconventional guardian angel who watches and listen to every conversation her four bestfirends had to say. Her four best friends had distinctive characters just like the characters in Sex and the City. Carol is the party girl who has been married and divorced twice and still looking, Anita is the weirdo who has a tendency to speak very quickly and happy when she takes her prozac, Liza is married with kids but finds her marriage boring & Kate is Carol’s tag along sister is the typical nerd who wears granny underwear and big eyeglasses.

Of course there were sad and happy moments. My most favorite part of the show were all the songs incorporated in every situation. It’s just like Mamma Mia meets Sex and the City. The casts were incredibly talented and can really belt out the songs like “Don’t Cry Out Loud”, “Lady Marmalade”, “Holding Out for a Hero” “I am What I Am”, “I will Survive”, “I’m Every Woman”, and “Girls Just Want To Have Fun”. This feel good musical really encouraged the audience to participate. Sharon, the angel ran through the aisle to encourage dancing and singing. Towards the end of the show, the cast requested all cancer survivors to come to the stage and sing Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” with the them.

Pinky Z. from Yorba Linda said, ” I thought it was funny, entertaining, great show to watch with your girlfriends…even with your mother.”

Besides the sexual innuendos that were hilarious, “Girls Night: The Musical” got great classic/feel good girlie anthems that will make your stress go away.
