As Paris, Milan, and New York wrapped up their fashion week, Orange County kicked off its fashion week on Sunday March 6th at the Dawson Cole Fine Art Gallery and Sculpture Garden in Laguna Beach. It was a beautiful al fresco sunny weather in the courtyard where photographers, bloggers and influencers flocked to see talented designers’ brands and designs. The Dawson Cole Courtyard stood out as an inspiring venue with modern sculptures that completed the mood of the event.
Kathryn Marino, Executive Producer and President of OC Fashion Week enthused “This season was incredible – the venues , the support of new sponsors, the models and the designers. 2022 is the year that are guests doubled. This made us be more motivated of our production as we plan for another season in September. I also want to thank you to Ariane and Rich Macdonald. Steffy De Mylo
The fashionable morning started the catwalk at 10:30 am. I was able to see the first three designers ‘showcased their upcoming line of clothing . The first collection was from Steffy De Mylo, a designer from Davao City Philippines.
De Mylo’s label is well known for her intricate designs that incorporate the Mindanaoan fabrics crafted south of the Philippines. Steffy states that her mantra is to let the potential of the fabric shine with every design she creates. She first featured her pieces at an ancillary event for the 2017 Ms. Universe pageant. In less than a year, she found herself working on designs for the international runway, with pieces featured during the “Kadayawan Weave: Haute Culture” event in Canada and even representing the Philippines during the Singapore Fashion Week. As for her preferred fabrics, Steffy said that her go-tos are malongs woven by the Dreamweavers of Lake Sebu, T’nalak, Inaul from Maguindanao and Langkit from Marawi.
Ushi Sato
The second designer is Ushi Sato. Sato is also a Filipino designer who has more than 15 years of experience in fashion design and defined by its juxtaposition of modern craftsmanship with a sense of refined ease. Additionally, his style is sophisticated, timeless and edgy. Sato is well-educated when it comes to fashion. He studied in Fashion Institute of the Philippines and Intitut Francais de la Mode Paris. Sato’s clientele includes members of Middle East high society and Filipino celebrities.
MaxJenny
MaxJenny is a Swedish designer based in Copenhagen, Denmark. She defines her style with clean lines, bright colors and handmade print which she designs using a digital camera, a pencil and a computer. Known for her elegant, timeless and innovative approach, the avant-garde designer combines art and fashion to develop her designs. With high-end craftsmanship and an international sculptural silhouette her clothing line is catered to contemporary demanding audience. I asked MaxJenny about her thoughts about OC Fashion Week “The OC Fashion Week is amazing and so full of energy and the models are like amazons and everyone is so kind. I’m so happy to be here. Orange County is lovely and the weather is ‘hello’,” she remarked.
