William Shatner Spearheads Hollywood Charity Horse Show

Shatner host of The Hollywood Charity Horse Show

It was in the late ’80s when William Shatner first watched exhibitions of children who were severely handicapped that some of them could not even hold their heads up. Shatner  was deeply affected and thought he could help.

So every year since 1990 the Hollywood Charity Horse Show spearheaded by William Shatner  host a world-class reining horses together with the riders showcasing astonishing slides and spins as they compete with top honors in their respective classes. The most recent HCHS sponsored by Wells Fargo was held at The Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank last April 25th.  The Horse Show benefits kids with severe handicapped. One girl with the name of Averie caught my attention. She looked absolutely beautiful with her red leotards and tights. I was impressed how courageous she was standing on the saddle. Averie has Prader-Willi. What is Prader-Willi Syndrome? PWS is a lifelong, life-threatening condition. There is no known cause of PWS, nor is there a cure — yet. Persons with PWS typically have weaker muscles, short stature if not treated with growth hormone, incomplete sexual development, and a chronic feeling of hunger.

Followed the competition/exhibition in the arena was the much anticipated auction, dinner and music show headlined by Kevin Cronin.  The singer is best-known as the lead singer and songwriter for the multi-platinum band REO Speedwagon.
