Yesterday and Today, the Interactive Beatles Experience at The Curtis Theatre in Brea

I did not have any plans of watching the show of “Yesterday and Today” last Saturday, April 15, The Interactive Beatles Experience but when a friend asked me to see the show, I was like why not, The Beatles are one of my all-time favorite bands. I grew up in a musical family and I still remember the vinyl records such as “Please Please Me” and other Beatles LP’s that piled up in our living room cabinet. In addition, when I was in Catholic elementary school, we loved to sing “Let It Be” in class.

The three brothers in the band are Billy McGuigan, Ryan McGuigan and Matthew McGuigan. Also in the band are Jay Hanson, Rich Miller and Tara Vaughan together they did an ample justice to the greatest and most influential act of the rock era, The Beatles.

As audiences come in, they can request a song and write why they requested it. The audience consisted of different generations from baby boomers to Gen Xers to millenials. I even saw some 8-10 year olds. A group of 11 people celebrating their birthdays requested The Beatles’ Happy Birthday song. Billy just didn’t read the name of the requester and the name of the song but he also read the reason why they requested it.

When it was time for a solo, Billy McGuigan’s impressive pipes did a gorgeous rendition of “Hey Jude.” Overall, all members of the band played with passion to the enthusiastic crowd.
Towards the second part of the show, the highlight of the evening was when the band played “Revolution” followed by “Twist and Shout” which brought down the house. As the show concluded, the emotional part was when Billy dedicated their performance to the memory of his late father, Bill. Bill shared his love of the Beatles catalogue with his boys. The performance included a home video montage showing the boys during their wonder years with their dad.

For the most part, I was entertained and would strongly recommend “Yesterday and Today”. It is the perfect show for a family affair, a date, or just a group of friends who want to have fun and enjoy good music.
