After 37 years, I got to meet Scott Baio in person.
Who would have thought Scott Baio is 58. For me, he will be a teen forever. I was 12 years young when I first discovered Chachi Arcola. I watched him faithfully on Happy Days and of course Joanie Loves Chachi. Do you remember when he would appear on a segment of Happy Days, and the TV audience would scream? I was just giddy watching him in front our Sony Triniton TV. I tore out pin-ups of Baio from Tiger Beat, Teen Beat and Bop magazines. The 80s was truly an era of this former teen superstar. Let’s not forget before he was cast on Happy Days, he already starred in the movie Bugsy Malone in 1976 opposite Jodie Foster. When Joanie Loves Chachi ended in 1983, another hit teen sitcom followed, “Charles in Charge” which aired from 1984-1990. He continued his acting career on the successful CBS series “Diagnosis Murder“. In the movies, my best memories of Scott Baio were from Zapped and Foxes.
In 2005, TV Guide named Baio one of the greatest teen idols of all time. Three years later, Baio became a reality star. “Scott Baio is 45…and Single” starring himself aired on VH1 followed by “Scott Baio Is 46…and Pregnant”. His latest show “See Dad Run” premiered on Nick at Nite in 2012 and ended in 2015.
After all these years, it’s 2019, and I finally got to meet Scott Baio at the Hollywood Show. As I stood in line waiting, I couldn’t help but think “Wow, I used to watch him all the time on TV during my teen life and here I am now chatting with him after 37 years. I am living my teen-age dream.”
