I love the music of Third Eye Blind but I embarrassingly admit I’ve never seen Third Eye Blind on stage until now. I must say what a remarkable performance that kept audience engaged through out the show. For one night and a two-hour show of the “Summer Gods Tour 2022” with “Taking Back Sunday” and “Hockey Dad” at the Five Point Amphitheatre in Irvine, CA on August 13 the audience were transported back to the days. The emergence of Stephan Jenkins drew cheer from an amped-up attendees. There were plenty of singing along and fellow devotees knew every lyrics of the song old or new from their mega hits “Jumper“, “Semi-Charmed Life“, “How’s It Going to Be“, “Never Let You Go“, to their first breakthrough record “The Background” in which Jenkins played with the heart gripping passion with wailing guitar to further strengthen the emotion.
Stephan Jenkins, front man of Third Eye Blind and lyricist was very grateful to fans and attendees of the concert. At some point, he stopped and looked at the audience with amazement of how fortunate he really is. For Third Eye Blind and Jenkins it was all about love at the concert. He remarked, “All of us together as one. I mean it when I say that. You didn’t come here to be alone. You came here to find each other. All of us together as one. You wanna feel some magic? That’s good …. It takes courage. It takes all of us. You gotta realize something. These are your people here. These are your friends right here. The ones on the back. Every single one of them. All of us together as one. So I want you to do something. Everybody right now. From the front all the way to the back …. I see every single one of you. All of us. Everybody right now. Get up turn around. Find somebody you don’t know. Tell them and say ‘Have a beautiful night. Do it. Find them. These are your people. These are your friends. Find each other.“
Jenkins also mentioned that this is the 25th year anniversary of the band and what keeps them going are the fans. “Most of you know by now…..this is the 25th anniversary of our band. And it’s totally impossible, we tried to make like a retrospective set list and we can’t do it. We can’t make some statement about what Third Eye Blind is because we’re still trying to figure that out and the thing about 25 years is that we’re still truly inspired to do that and that inspiration…it comes from you guys…truly.“
The alternative rock band has not played in three years. And that night Stephan’s voice was a little raspy where he admitted he was losing his voice, but his melodic chops and vocal performance were still first-rate.
The last part of the show was joined by Hockey Dad band which Jenkins shared that it’s one of his favorite bands.
Third Eye Blind Summer of Gods Tour 2022 – Five Point Theatre Irvine, CA – Aug 13 – Popbuff.com
What a stelar night! If there’s any obvious way to sum up the show that night, it was flawless, nostalgic and a love fest between the band and the fans.
The Summer Gods tour will be supporting the restoration of a portion of the Palos Verdes Kelp Forest. Called the Blind Reef, portion of the proceeds of each ticket will help the surf community at SeaTrees to restore the kelp ecosystem that sequesters carbon off the California Coast.
