Kate Hudson has proven herself as a bona fide artist with the successful launch of her debut show and album “Glorious” at The Bellwether in Los Angeles. Fans eagerly lined up down from Boylston St. to W. 3rd St., waiting patiently for the highly anticipated event. At 9:20 PM, Hudson made her grand entrance, rocking a tulle-embroidered sheered maxi dress and black boots—a perfect ensemble for her first show. She radiated confidence, raising her arms in a peace sign as the crowd erupted with excitement. With a grateful bow and pressed palms, she expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the audience.
Hudson kicked off the night with “Gonna Find Out,” showcasing her flawless voice. After the opening song, she charmed the crowd by saying, “I’m going to sprinkle in some covers. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but as a new artist, I only have 10.” An enthusiastic fan shouted back, “10 amazing songs!”
Next up was a cover of “‘Til Tuesday’s” iconic ’80s hit “Voices Carry.” Hudson’s raw, raspy, and rock-star intensity breathed new life into the classic, captivating everyone in the room. If Aimee Mann heard it, she would undoubtedly be thrilled by the exceptional rendition. See the video below.
When she finished “Voices Carry,” Hudson gave a heartfelt shoutout, “My parents are in the audience. I don’t know if you recognize them. They’re on their throne; I made sure of it. Just in case you guys forgot.” Before the next song, she teased the crowd with a special treat, saying, “This is actually a little bonus track. It’s not on the album.” A fan eagerly shouted, “When do we get it?” She replied with a playful smile, “I don’t know, but it may be coming. This is ‘Desert Warrior’.” The anticipation and connection with the audience were electric, adding another memorable moment to an already unforgettable night.
After “Desert Warrior,” Hudson launched into “Come Pick Me Up,” followed by my favorite track on her “Glorious” album, “The Nineties.” The tune is irresistibly catchy and perfectly balanced, featuring a steady acoustic rhythm and thoughtful lyrics that resonate deeply with the listener.
In between songs, Hudson captivated the audience with her genuine interactions. She engaged with their remarks, creating a warm and personal connection. Her constant smile and vibrant stage presence exuded a positive energy that lit up the entire venue, making everyone feel a part of her musical journey.
Hudson surprised the audience with a special guest appearance by Dean DeLeo, guitarist of Stone Temple Pilots. Together, they performed a powerful cover of “Vasoline,” with Hudson once again delivering an outstanding rendition of this alternative rock hit, proving her versatility and skill.
The show was nothing short of spectacular. Her 8-piece band delivered an impeccable performance, seamlessly supporting her through 19 songs. You’d never guess it was her first live performance. The audience surely thought she should have started this journey earlier in her career. Hudson’s talent is undeniable; her versatile voice effortlessly handles rock, pop, and ballads. Her vocals are powerful, emotive, and crystal clear, resonating with a unique timbre that sets her apart. With every song co-written by her, she showcased her artistry and depth. I would definitely see her again if she goes on tour.
