As most of you know, I’m a big art and fashion aficionado. My latest discovery is an exhibition of celebrity portrait photography as you’ve never seen them before. The exhibit called Shooting Stars showcases the excellent talent behind the camera and is presented by W Magazine and Conde Nast. Shooting Stars pays homage when Art meets Fashion.
Although the venue is small, the presentation is amazingly dramatic and the ambiance will take you to a visual journey of digital screens and striking celebrity over sized prints as seen in W Magazine archives by notable photographers including Steven Klein, Mario Sorrenti, Mert Alas, Marcus Piggot, Juergen Teller, Tim Walker and more.
Celebrity subjects include Miley Cyrus laying bare, Rosamund Pike looking like “Gone Girl”, Jessica Chastain posing as a Hollywood glamour girl, Jennifer Lawrence sucking her thumb and other celebrity subjects like Justin Timberlake, Pharrell Williams, Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis, and Kristen Stewart.
This exhibition pays tribute to the photographers, stylists, hairdressers, make-up artist and set designers. The exhibit is curated by Stefano Tonchi, editor-in-chief of W magazine.
Shooting Stars runs thru February 22, 2015. Closed Wednesdays. Hours are: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. and weekends 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. at the old Wilshire May Company Building near LACMA. 6067 Wilshire Boulevard at Fairfax. Los Angeles 90036.
