Growing up in the ’80s I was gaga over the Go-Go’s. I was around the age of 13 when I started listening to “We Got The Beat”. A relative of mine had the picture disc vinyl 45s and we would always play it on her Winnie the Pooh record player. Forty years later they are still playing with great enthusiasm and energy.
Belinda Carlisle the vocalist of the the most successful all-female rock band of all time had her big solo album in 1987 “Heaven on Earth” albeit this is not her first album, it was her biggest hit in the US. According to Wikipedia the first single released, “Heaven Is a Place on Earth”, reached the number one position throughout the world. “I Get Weak” one of my favorites was the second single released reached the number two spot in the U.S. and garnered a top 10 placing in Canada and the U.K.
In 2011, Carlisle, as a member of the Go-Go’s, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And in 2021, Carlisle and the band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021. Drew Barrymore a big fan of the all-female group inducted The Go-Go’s Into Rock Hall of Fame.
On Nov. 2 the pop legend will do a one-night-only concert at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Carlisle will churn out classics such as “Mad About You” , “Heaven Is a Place on Earth” and many more.
