If you’re a connoisseur of the arts and marine life, then it’s no brainer you know this prominent artist Robert Wyland… more famous known as just “Wyland“. Wyland celebrated his 60th birthday at Wyland Laguna Beach Galleries on July 10 where he gave a tour of his new fine arts and explained some of the stories behind it. The event was well attended by clients, friends including Jon Lovitz from Saturday Night Live, art afficionados and fans.
Wyland kicked off the event by introducing his crew who’s been working at the Wyland Galleries for years and years. Wyland’s mom was also present and brought the cake for her son. The first fine art piece Wyland showcased was his first bronzed mermaid which just came out. He has already sold over 50 of these pieces in the past couple weeks. A photo-op was encouraged during the event. Customers and the art they purchased, as well as fans eagerly lined up for a photo with the marine life artist.
Wyland’s Murals
Did you know the noted artist also painted murals all over the world to raise awareness of the marine life and its preservation? The Wyland Whaling Wall in Long Beach was the world’s largest mural in 1992. Everything in the mural portrays the actual size of its subjects. Today, one of the largest marine life art projects in the world is in Beijing which is called “Hands Across the Oceans” and includes one half-mile of murals created by children from 192 countries. The effort was led by Wyland in conjunction with the 2008 Beijing Cultural Olympic Festival. He has painted over 100 murals across the continent.
Wyland’s birthday wish and his long term project
“My wish really is to use my art to continue to inspire people to protect our ocean planet which is importantly critical not only to the the fish, whales, and forest but all of us people that depend on clean water and a healthy planet.”
Wyland also mentioned a project that he is working on. “I’m doing a hundred monumental sculptures for a hundred great cities and that’s a 25-year project to raise awareness again and letting people see the animals that are threatened today by the actions of human….so anyway that’s gonna be really big.”
