Last year I covered the first public opening of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and on Sunday, March 27th was the inaugural Oscars Night at the museum. It was an epic evening filled with glamorous people who are movie buffs.
Driving from my hometown of San Clemente to Los Angeles was such a commute but it was so worth it. This special occasion made me think of my late mom who I know would love this Oscar Night because she got to dress up. But I know she was there in spirit and happy for me.
The event kicked off with a walk on the red carpet. Although I’ve been to a number of red carpet events, this one was super exciting because it was the Oscar Night. After the red carpet, guest were taken to a 360 video booth. I felt like a real celebrity with my outfit that I’ve been saving only for a special occasion.
Inside the state of the art building, you’ll see monitors on every corner to view the live broadcast of the 94th Academy Awards®. Dave Karger an award winning host of Turner Classic Movies (who I had the chance to chat with) was the host together with emcees Chris and Vanessa Spencer, Tom Lenk, D’Lo, and Jesus Trejo performing during commercial breaks.
I was able to chat with some attendees – an actor, a movie lover and a filmmaker.
Morgan Elicahill who appeared in General Hospital and worked with the award winning actor Geoffrey Blake enthused “This is like my little girl dream come true already. I feel like I’m at home at once and in a dream so this is everything that my little girl self from my small town in Southern Utah wanted to do when I grow up and I’m doing it.”
Max Aquino a filmmaker remarked “The first annual Oscar Night at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, was a dream come true. Those who attended got a chance to experience walking on a red carpet with a photographer to snap your photo. There were Oscar statues throughout the venue, and it honestly made me feel like I was an A-list celebrity on Hollywood’s biggest night. I wish they had given actual plates of food instead of finger foods, but overall I had a blast.”
Ileana Olmedo a movie aficionado mentioned “As a movie lover, I was excited to finally be able to go to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures for the first time, and was able to attend, of all nights, the first Oscar’s Night by invite of a good friend. I was in awe of the immersive experience of the entire night. From strolling down a real red carpet with full photo-op to delish hors d’oeuvres and drinks while mingling with like-minded film fans, to getting lost in mesmerizing awe of the endless passageways of the museum itself and finally enjoying the Academy Awards livestream. It was a magical night indeed.”
And I couldn’t agree more. It was indeed a memorable event.
Such a great read, thank you for sharing your experience.
Thank you for your comment M. A.
