On November 7, 2020 my family and I witnessed the lighting of what is being touted as the “Tallest Christmas Tree in the World” at the Outlets at San Clemente. I could not be more excited that the world’s tallest Christmas tree is in my neck of the woods (San Clemente) only a 10-minute drive from where I live. The festivities kicked off at 6 pm with talents from OCSA (Orange County School of the Arts) who were all wearing masks except briefly while singing. At around 6:30 pm, it started to rain but that didn’t deter the audience from viewing the musical show. Many attendees came equipped with umbrellas. At 7 PM, the “Tallest Christmas Tree in the World” beamed with 18,000 multicolored lights along with 10,000 additional ornaments. In line with the celebration, artificial snow dropped from the roof of several of the outlet buildings which brought holiday cheer to the attendees, especially the toddlers and kids. It was gratifying to witness this holiday spirit and cheer despite the backdrop of a pandemic. I was moved that such a big crowd turned out at the event and obeyed social distancing orders while enjoying themselves. I encourage everyone to come out to the San Clemente Outlets and see this beautiful tree for yourself.
