There are certain bands that can instantly take you back to another time in your life. For me, Pixies are one of those bands.

On September 27, 2026, I finally got to see Pixies live at Ohana Festival in Dana Point, and being so close to the stage made the experience even more memorable.

It was a humid day, but that didn’t stop fans from enjoying the music. The crowd stayed engaged, soaking in the performance and the unmistakable sound of a band that has been part of alternative-rock history for decades.

As someone who has always loved alternative rock, seeing Pixies perform live brought back so many memories of the music I grew up listening to. From the moment they took the stage, it felt less like simply watching a concert and more like stepping back into another era.

Hardly Any Talk — Just the Music
One thing that immediately stood out about Pixies’ set was how little talking there was between songs.

There were no long speeches, no drawn-out introductions and no unnecessary theatrics. They simply moved from one song to the next, letting the music speak for itself.

And that made the experience even better.

The set felt like pure nostalgia — loud guitars, familiar melodies, raw energy and that unmistakable Pixies sound. For longtime fans, there was no need for much conversation from the stage. We were there for the songs.

Even with the humid weather, the audience stayed enthusiastic. A little heat was no match for a set filled with music that brought back so many memories.

Hardly any talk. No unnecessary theatrics. Just pure nostalgia and great music.

Hearing “Here Comes Your Man” Live
One of the biggest highlights for me was hearing “Here Comes Your Man,” my favorite Pixies song, performed live.

There is something special about finally hearing a song you have loved for years played right in front of you. The moment those familiar notes began, it immediately brought back memories.

That is one of the things I love most about live music. A song can transport you back to a certain time, place or chapter of your life in just a few seconds.

And being near the barricade made it even better. I wasn’t watching from far away. I could see the musicians up close, the expressions on their faces, the guitars, the movement onstage and all those little details that make a live performance feel personal.

Eddie Vedder Joins Pixies Onstage

Another memorable moment came when Eddie Vedder joined Pixies onstage for a duet.

Before introducing the band, Vedder told the crowd, “This band will always remain one of my top favorites, and we’re so glad to hear them.”

That introduction made the moment feel even more special. Hearing Vedder openly express his admiration for Pixies added another layer of appreciation before the band took the stage.

Seeing the Pearl Jam frontman later share the stage with Pixies was one of those special festival moments that makes Ohana Festival feel unique. For an alternative-rock fan, watching them perform together added even more excitement to an already nostalgic set.

Up Close and Personal

From where I was standing near the barricade, the performance felt incredibly up close and personal.
The stage itself kept things fairly simple. Behind the band was the recognizable Pixies “P” logo, while the focus remained on the musicians, their instruments and the music.

That simplicity worked perfectly for them.

There was no need for an elaborate production because the songs already carried so much history and emotion for the audience.

My photos captured some of those moments — the stage lights, the guitars, the drummer behind the kit and the band performing against the large Pixies backdrop.

Being that close allowed me to appreciate not only the music but also the small interactions and energy happening onstage.

Music That Takes You Back
Seeing Pixies live reminded me why nostalgia plays such a big part in my love of concerts.

Sometimes you hear a song you grew up with and suddenly the years disappear.

You remember where you were when you first heard it. You remember the music you were listening to at the time. You remember a younger version of yourself.

That was exactly what happened for me during Pixies.

As a true music lover — especially when it comes to alternative rock — I enjoy discovering new artists, but there is something completely different about finally seeing a band whose music has been part of your life for years.

Pixies didn’t need to say much onstage.

The music said everything.

And somewhere between the humid afternoon, the guitars, the nostalgia, Eddie Vedder joining them onstage and finally hearing “Here Comes Your Man” live, I found myself completely caught up in the moment.

For my first Pixies concert, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
